Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. Samsung Galaxy S3: Round Two

he Samsung Galaxy S3 has been one of the premier Android smartphones for the last six months, accumulating millions in sales across the globe. However, every phone sees its time come to an end and it appears that the Galaxy S3′s time is almost up. Rumored to be replacing it is the Samsung Galaxy S4, a device that consumers are looking forward to buying and a device that Samsung is hoping will shatter the records of its predecessors.
Samsung’s Galaxy S series for the past several years, has been the company’s flagship smartphone model. Starting with the original Galaxy S which launched on the largest carriers in the U.S., followed by the then record-setting Galaxy S2 and then, last year, the launch of Samsung’s most successful smartphone to date, the Samsung Galaxy S3.
P6190006-620x465-431x575
The Galaxy S3 will soon be replaced by the Galaxy S4.
The Samsung Galaxy S3, on sale since May, has gone on to smash the records set by the Galaxy S2, as Samsung claims it has sold over 40 million units across planet. Those numbers, a slick marketing campaign aimed directly at the iPhone, and a high quality smartphone have all combined to propel the Galaxy S series to the forefront of Android devices.
Now, there is a serious battle between Samsung’s Galaxy series and Apple’s iPhone, the device that was once thought to be unrivaled. And because of this new found attention, this new pedestal, the Galaxy S line is in the spotlight now more than it ever has been in the past. And that popularity may have no better evidence than the rumored Samsung Galaxy S4, the device that is rumored to be replacing the Galaxy S3.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 popped up in rumors back in December and hasn’t looked back leaking out on an almost daily basis. And while Samsung has yet to confirm its plans for the fourth-generation Galaxy S, these past few weeks have armed us with an assortment of credible possibilities including information about its hardware, software, release date and more.
So, how does the Galaxy S4 match up versus the Galaxy S3? Let’s take a look.

Release Date

The Samsung Galaxy S3 was announced back in May of 2012 to quite a bit of excitement. The Galaxy S2 was coming off a record breaking year and consumers were excited to see how Samsung might top it. Like the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy S3 leaked out many times in the weeks prior to its launch at a press event in London in May.
Samsung had originally been rumored to be announcing the phone at MWC 2012 in Barcelona but decided to use its own launch event instead, likely so it could launch the device closer to its release date in the United States. Typically, devices from foreign manufacturers hit the United States last and Samsung wanted to prevent a delayed launch like the Galaxy S2′s.
So, the company debuted the Galaxy S3 and announced that it would be out in Europe in late May and in the U.S. in late June. All five of the major U.S. service providers offered the Galaxy S3 by the end of July with the release dates taking a staggered approach as they typically do. Verizon, as usual, was one of the last to release its variant.
Since then, the carriers have offered the Galaxy S3, and since then, the device has remained near the top of our list in terms of the best Android smartphones available on the market.
Nothing gold can stay gold though and the Galaxy S3′s time in the limelight is almost over.

Jamie Oliver launches Samsung Hope Relay charity giving app

International chef-bot Jamie Oliver and British Olympic cyclist Victoria Pendleton teamed up with Samsung this morning to launch an app that will see the tech giant donating £1 to charity for every mile you run.
Called 'Samsung Hope Relay', the app seemed pretty nifty in the short time I had with it. Once you've downloaded it, you take a picture of your face and move it around so it fits into a circle on the screen, type in your name and email address and it will create an animated character with your face on it.
Then click a button to say you're going for a run or cycle and the app uses GPS to track your movements. You can share your stats and animated character with your Facebook friends and enlist them to help you get to a distance target you set, saving you from doing all the hard work yourself. Have a click through the photo gallery above to see more screenshots from my hands-on and pictures from the press conference, including a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance from David Beckham.
If you're travelling over 25 miles per hour the app stops registering your miles, to stop you plopping the phone in the car and driving about to rack up your total. The app will also stop counting after 26 miles.
The money raised will be split between three charities. These are Kids Company, which helps vulnerable young people in London, International Inspiration, which gives children across the world the chance to play sport, and an as-yet-unnamed charity to be decided by the International Olympic Committee.
Samsung's UK MD Andrew Griffiths said the company is hoping for £1 million to be raised, but the total is open-ended, so it could be greater if the whole country were to get behind it. (Update: Samsung's PR company has just phoned me to say that this information was wrong -- Samsung's contribution is actually capped at $1 million.) You can rack up the miles until 12 August.
The app is available today for Android phones at the Google Play Store, for Bada phones atSamsung's app store and for iPhones here. It will arrive in the UK first, with 20 other countries following shortly.
What do you think -- is this a good idea or not? Will you be forming a team and using this app when running? Let me know in the comments below or on our Facebook wall.

Samsung Galaxy Note II Tops 5 Million in Sales

Samsung is celebrating worldwide sales of more than 5 million Galaxy Note II devices just two months after its release.
The electronics giant announced the milestone in atranslated news release less than 30 days after the South Korean company reported selling 3 million of the super-sized smartphones.
A Samsung spokeswoman confirmed in an email that the Galaxy Note II has surpassed 5 million in sales since its debut in late September, adding that the original Galaxy Note took about five months to reach 5 million in global sales.
The Note II is now on sale in all regions, the release said, including Asia, Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East, and Africa. The device, which boasts a 5.5-inch, 1,280-by-720-pixel display is available on all major U.S. carriers — Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular, and runs on Google's Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean operating system. For $299, customers also snag a 1.6-GHz, quad-core Exynos processor, optimized for LTE networks, as well as 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, plus a microSD card for expandable storage up to 64GB.
Samsung's oversized phone/tablet is still lagging behind Samsung's flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III, which was confirmed earlier this month to have sold more than 30 million devices in five months. The device swept the smartphone market in the third quarter alone, besting the iPhone 4S with 18 million Galaxy S III shipments — 11 percent of the smartphone market.
The smartphone maker may have another trick up its sleeve, with rumors of a Galaxy S IV device making the rounds last week. Samsung might provide a first look at the phone during January's CES or February's Mobile World Congress. A Korean newspaper reported that the new phone will feature a high-definition, 4.99-inch screen with a 1,920-by-1,080-pixel display — a jump in the pixels-per-inch from the S III.

Samsung Galaxy S4: Release date, specs, price, news and rumours

The Samsung Galaxy S3 made a case for the Android operating system like no phone before it. It picked up the T3 Gadget Award for Best Smartphone of the Year 2012 and regularly tops lists of the best smartphones available on the market.

Inevitably then, rumours have begun to circulate on what Sammy has planned as a follow up. We’ve scoured the web to bring you the latest news, rumours and speculations about the Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung Galaxy S4 – display

Samsung has confirmed it is working on flexible displays and rumours are already circulating that the Korean giant is planning to utilise this technology for the Galaxy S4.

Flexible displays are "foldable, rollable, wearable and more, [and] will allow for a high degree of durability through their use of a plastic substrate that is thinner, lighter and more flexible than conventional LCD technology," a Samsung spokesperson told the BBC.

The flexible OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) screen on the Galaxy S4 would also likely be Full HD with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 or higher and would be a full five inches across. Which is encroaching on Samsung Galaxy Note II territory.

Samsung Galaxy S4 – Specs

According to Korean website Ddaily, the Samsung Galaxy S4 will arrive toting a quad-core Exynos processor built on the 28nm microarchitecture standard. Essentially, this is a smaller, faster Exynos (Samsung’s own custom processors) than is currently tucked away inside the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Newer processors, along with increased speed, focus on improving efficiency between cores. This should mean that the Samsung Galaxy S4 can boast more processes and a longer battery life than we’ve previously seen in a handheld.

Other specs include a 13MP rear-facing camera and, of course, the aforementioned 1080p screen.

Samsung Galaxy S4 – release date

We originally had our rumourscope centred on a snifter of the Samsung Galaxy S4 at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona in February – but that admittedly is far too tight a timeline for a new flagship device.

The Korean Times reported that Samsung was planning to unveil the Galaxy S4 in March, but the higher-ups at Samsung took to Twitter to shoot down that particular rumour themselves.

Translated from Korean, the tweet read: "Please note that some media reported speculation that the Galaxy S subsequent models will be released is a simple rumor is not true. [If] not doing anything, why spread these rumors?"

Despite this protestation, we imagine a mid-2013 release date isn’t far off the mark. The Samsung Galaxy S3 was revealed in May, so it’s reasonable to assume Samsung will follow the same pattern with the next generation. That would allow it to steal a march on a possible iPhone 5S.

We’ll keep you updated with any new Galaxy S4 shaped rumours that come to pass. But in the meantime you can fill up your Samsung cravings with ourSamsung Galaxy S3Samsung Galaxy Mini and Samsung Galaxy Note 2reviews.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 leaks ahead of MWC 2013 release

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 pictures have leaked online ahead of the third-generation tablet's expected MWC 2013 Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 release date.

Offering a tantalising glimpse at Samsung's next-generation tablet offering, blurry Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 pictures have claimed to show a boxed and branded Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 tablet, hitting the web with a product model number in tow.

Unfortunately, due to the quality of the claimed Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 pictures, it is only possible to make out the starting “GT-P” used to number all of Samsung’s tablets. As yet, it is not known whether the pictures feature the GT-P3200 Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, the GT-P5200 Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 or the GT-P8200 Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Plus.

Based on the relative size of the display to the icons shown on screen, it has been claimed that the featured tablet is likely the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 or the recently leaked Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Plus.

Although an confirmed Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 specs have yet to be revealed, it is expected that a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 release date will be officially unveiled next month during the Barcelona based MWC 2013 conference. Latest Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 rumours have seen the iPad mini rival tipped to host a 5-megapixel camera as well as Wi-Fi and 3G iterations.

It is also unknown whether the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 series will opt for the high-end of the market with a premium price tag and specs to boot, or will be targeted at value-for-money tablet rivals such as the Google Nexus 7

Samsung is due to be launching several new devices at MWC, including the already confirmed Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet. Rumoured to arrive with 2GB of RAM, 1.3-megapixel front camera and 5-megapixels in the rear, and a 1.6HGz quad-core processor, the 8-inch tablet should also have a 1280 X 800p resolution.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is set to be launched as a 8-inch affordable tablet with S Pen to rival other such tablets like the Nook HD and Amazon Kindle fire HD.

What do you think of the leaked pictures of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 device? What specs would the device need to pack for you to buy one over the competition? Let us know in the comment boxes below.
